Bronze statues:
Hot cast bronze statues, melted by the the lost wax method and later colored by a hot patina. Includes marble base.
Throughout our history, Basque women have been a fundamental basis of the family,. They gave birth and raised the children, they carried out the home tasks and, in addition, they also contributed extensively to farm work.
This bronze statue was not conceived only as a decorative figurine. Doing it I want to express my admiration for that fundamental and basic part of our society, not sufficiently recognised for too many generations.
The figure represents a woman (farmer) working with a kind of fork (called “Layas” in basque), an ancestral tool, used in the tillage of the ground before sowing.
